It uses two screw compression stages in series. Air is compressed to an intermediate pressure in the first stage, cooled and then compressed to final pressure in the second stage.

Two-stage compression is most relevant for continuous, high-flow or higher-pressure duty where energy use is a major part of lifetime cost. Selection should still be based on measured flow, pressure and load profile.
